1. Bible, the Holy Scriptures of YHWH.
2. Corrie Ten Boom had an amazing mission. World War II is happening again, like it or not. It is so important for us to understand our past and how other people survived. Corrie Ten Boom’s life and testimony is so inspiring and encouraging. I know, no matter what difficulties I go through, with God’s help I CAN do what needs to be done.
3. Louisa May Alcott was a feminist & transcendentalist (new age). It may be good to keep that in mind, but I don’t think you’d really ever know it by reading her books. In her day and age, people were so saturated with scripture and Christian principles, you can’t help but see it in her work. My favorites are “Eight Cousins”, “Rose in Bloom: A Sequel to Eight Cousins”, and “Jack and Jill: A Village Story”. I love the Christian Character Qualities in these books.
4. Elisabeth Elliot is a modern day heroine in my opinion. Her books should be a MUST read.
5. Charles Dickens is considered CLASSIC for a reason. I don’t know that I can pick a favorite, but I loved “The Old Curiosity Shop”.
6. Dracula by Bram Stoker (I know you may not believe it, but this is a GREAT Christian book!)
7. Jane Austen is a new favorite, there is so much more to her books than “romance”! Her books are filled with the best object lessons for helping young people in carefully picking friends.
8. The Gift Of The Blessing by John Trent and Gary Smalley is another MUST read. This book helped me resolve issues from my childhood. It helped me understand God’s love and acceptance for me.
9. Ruth Beechick didn't just write books for homeschoolers, though they are a must if you are even considering home education. Her book, “Adam and His Kin”, is an amazing book, easy to read and thought provoking.
10. of course, Kathryn Fogleman is one of my favorite authors, not because I've known her since before she was born and share the same house… (honestly, that could work the opposite, LOL) I humbly believe the title people are giving her of “Master Storyteller” fits. God has gifted her with an amazing talent and I am so very proud of her.
My list may seem a bit boring, mostly classics. I love OLD books & OLD ideas. What are yours?
