Amazing Grace Blog Tour (stop #7)
Faith Blum has done it again. This third book in her Hymns of the West Series is EXCELLENT! I really enjoyed getting to know the new characters and touching base with a few older characters I've grown to love. Faith isn't afraid to touch on some tough issues in her books, but does so with wonderfully feminine grace. Throughout Amazing Grace, the author leads the reader through the Plan of Salvation with Caleb and his father. We see the beauty of a changed life through the strength and renewal of Christ. We also see the struggle of surrender, acceptance, and growth. The relationships are tangible and while there is a bit of romance, it is tempered with a down-to-earth reality that creates hope without undue fluff and fantasy.
I'm also pleased to share with you today an Interview of one of the characters in Amazing Grace, ten year old Rachel. Welcome to Prairie Dust Trail Rachel! Can you say hello to our Dusty Readers?
Hello, Dusty Readers! I’m happy to be here. Did you ride on a stagecoach to get so dusty?
It doesn't take a stagecoach to get dusty out here on the prairie. The wind just blows the dust all over the place out here! Now, could you tell us a little about you?
What do you want to know? My dad died two years ago and things have been hard. Our church family hasn't been very supportive of us and Mum has a hard time finding jobs to do. I enjoy school and have worked to get ahead of the rest of the children in my class. Mostly because I have lots of time to study. I’m ten years old and really want a daddy to help Mum and also to have as my own.
Sounds like things have been tough. I'm glad you like school. Learning is very important. My children and I spend a lot of time studying too. We just love books and learning new things. What's your mom like?
Wonderful. I can’t imagine a better Mum. She’s always been there for me. She works hard and gives up her own food for me sometimes, even though I hate when she has to do that. She is beautiful, funny, has a love for the Lord many mothers don’t, and loves to spend time with me. I should probably stop or your readers will get bored.
Oh, mommies never get bored of hearing such praise. We all strive to be moms like yours. I'm so glad you appreciate her the way you do. What do you think of your new dad?
I really miss my first daddy, but Mr. Stuart, has been everything I prayed for in a new daddy. He’s been kind and considerate and tried his best to get to know me. He’s quieter and less outgoing than my first daddy was, but he still tries to get out there enough to talk to me. He’s also learning a ton about the Bible and has been able to teach both Mum and I things we hadn’t ever seen before. I love having him as my new daddy.
That's great! It never ceases to amaze me how every time we open the Bible, we can learn something new. You have cousins now, right? What do you all like to do together?
Yes, I do. It’s a lot of fun. We go fishing, wandering in the woods, helping Daddy in the fields, tease each other, and whatever else we find that is fun.
What's your favorite Bible verse?
That is easy, Proverbs 3:5-6. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Mum and I have really been learning that. A second favorite is Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
Those are some of my favorites too! Thank you so much for coming today Rachel! It's been a delight to have you!
