Beach Books

Beaches in Oklahoma are mostly around man-made lakes. We are "Frontier Lake State" only because of these man made reservoirs. We are extremely grateful for the most part, especially during summer. Summers here can last May through September with many days over 100 degrees and the wind blowing over 20 miles an hour.

I try to schedule our beach time so that we don't have to share with many people. I'm not unsociable, I just don't swim well myself so I like to be able to count the heads of my children easily. It also helps the boys if there isn't immodesty they have to constantly avert their eyes from. We've never had the opportunity/or taken time to take our children to the ocean. I'd love to someday, but... We went to Pensacola Florida for our honeymoon and that was the first time I remember ever seeing the ocean myself. It was MUCH different than our muddy little ponds here. Still, we enjoy what we have.

Usborne has some neat looking books about the Beach. I think "On the Beach" is the one I'd pick first, but the musical Storytime App for "Hush Little Beachcomber" sounds really nifty too!

Our family once spent a very interesting night in a tent along the "beach" of an Oklahoma reservoir! A memory we'll never forget but would rather not repeat. Certainly good for telling stories about . . . but not enough room here!
