 | I am so blessed. I know I am. Paul is the most Amazing man. Still, sometimes in the past 24 + years it's taken work. People change through the years. I've become less of an optimist and grown in patience. He has become less pliable and grown in boldness. Both have their good points and their drawbacks. We have also learned the value of seeking God's Word in all things. When we first married, Paul looked up all the Bible verses with the words "husband" and "wife" in them with his first Bible computer program. We should have looked up many other words! Thankfully our Commitment to God and our vows to HIM has kept us together through the "for Better and for Worse". |
Pastor Jim Hughes has written a book from his years of knowledge and experience in Marriage Counseling and in his own marriage. Each of the 49 chapters concentrates on a word starting with the letter "C". Contentment, Challenge, Calamity, Communication, Consequences, Consummation... He starts each with a little testimony/example scenario of a couple he calls Bill & Barb. (Now, why didn't their names start with "C" too?) Then he explains about the "C" word, what it has to do with marriage, where people tend to go wrong, and what the right responses and attitudes should be. He supplements with scripture from the NIV. If you are KJV only you will want to look those up in your own Bible. I like to look up the verses myself and highlight them in my Bible anyway, so that is never a problem for me personally. Each chapter ends with a "For further consideration" containing discussion topics, questions, and even a few simple assignments. I'd like to see Pastor Hughes write a supplemental study guide journal with scripture references.

It would also be wonderful for engaged couples to read together before the wedding. There is nothing inappropriate, yet it clearly gets the point across on sensitive topics.
