Cats are an important part of farm life. Rodents are a reality and cats (if they are worth their fur & flea collar) help keep life in the barn bearable. I have many farming friends and neighbors who also have them in the house. I personally don't like litter boxes so our cats seldom come in. Our Crazy-Cat-Lady in training does bring the kittens in to play occasionally and we really enjoy their playful antics. On the farm, cats are very inexpensive pets. They have plenty of rodents & small birds, like barn swallows (which we also get overrun with) to eat. We do purchase flea & tick collars in summer and a little cat food in winter. We also usually have the males neutered to help prevent unhealthy inbreeding.

Here are some fun books for the children to learn more about cats.
