One of the best literary examples of critical thinking is the great Sherlock Holmes. Who can resist a good mystery? Unfortunately, many of the stories involve murder, which I don’t want my family to dwell on. Good examples of mysteries for children are Last Chance Detectives, The Hardy Boys, and good ol’ Nancy Drew.

Critical thinking is considering situations with logic, discernment, and decisiveness. It is extremely important for children to learn to think critically. The best critical thinking, of course, is based on Biblical standards and worldview. The proverbs are excellent in teaching true wisdom and not just world knowledge. Also looking through the History in Judges, Chronicles, and Kings and analyzing the actions and reactions of the nations of the middle east can teach so much.
