The Feast of Trumpets is one of our favorite holidays. We always have fresh apples from a neighbor’s tree and honey to dip them in. Sometimes I’ll make Apple Crisp too. We like to make it a family night and play games or watch a special movie together. Of course, it seems all the more special if we light candles too!
“And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you.” Numbers 29:1 |

‘September’ means seventh month. Biblical months begin with each new moon though, so the Feast of Trumpets this year is tonight.
“Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. …the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement… The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the Lord. …” Leviticus 23:24-44
What does this feast mean to us today? The Feast of Trumpets is practice. It is a reminder for us to be ready. At sundown, everyone is to clean up and dress up for a party.
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Matthew 24:29-31
The Jewish tradition is to dress in white. Y’shua said he will give us new bodies. I imagine we will be dressed in white, like HE was in Matthew 17:1-3, Mark 9:2-4, and Luke 9:28-30.
“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:52
We are looking forward to that day.
Our favorite resource at this time of year is A Family Guide to the Biblical Holidays by Robin Sampson. This book is packed full of printables, recipes, activities and information. Mine is bursting at the seams with notes and extra information and ideas I’ve printed off the internet.
Here are some other fun activities I’ve found:
One of the reasons I really like the Feast of Trumpets is, it is a fun way to remind me of the coming Holy-day season. Next week is the Day of Atonement, a time to fast and contemplate the coming judgement. Five days after that is the Feast of Tabernacles when we remember Y’shua (Jesus) coming to live among us as a tiny baby. We are also reminded that this earth is out temporary home like the tents the Israelites stayed in during their time in the wilderness. This is an 8 day feast. This gives me over a month to make my Thanksgiving menu and make Hanukkah gifts. Hopefully by Thanksgiving, we are all in a festive mood and I’m prepared for a stress-free Holy-day season.
