Cowboy hats are a practical part of everyday life here on the prairie. They give a bit of shade and protection from sun, wind, & dust. You seldom go anywhere in the panhandle without seeing a feller with one on.
Cowboy hats come in many shapes and sizes. Watching a cowboy pick out a new hat is something to see. They can be pickier than a woman choosing a new handbag! Some want a tall crown, some want short. Some want a wide brim, some want narrow. Some want a fancy band, some want simple. Even the feather in the band is a very personal choice. Sometimes they will even have a special occasion hat for church. |
