National Painting Week

Okay, I had no clue there was even such a thing, but here we are in the middle of painting the kitchen and I get this email from Sherwin Williams saying it's National Painting Week.  LOL  What fun to be in the midst of a project and find out people are celebrating the week.

I'm a color girl.  Every room in our house is a different color. When we first moved here I painted the kitchen a 'bread' color, which came out very peachy.  I found some wallpaper boarder on sale real cheap with the cutest bunnies on it and peach boarders. I've loved it.  That was over 15 years ago.  The rest of the house has gotten painted at least twice since then, but the kitchen has waited. Honestly I was hoping we'd be able to remodel, but the drought and economy have killed that idea.  Well, it's way past time for something to be done and I know a new coat of paint always makes things fresh.

I decided to do a few things a bit out of my comfort zone this time.  I decided to paint the back-splash between cabinets all the way around AND paint the actual cabinets.  I kinda hated to paint the cabinets because hubby and I both love natural wood, but they were needing something washable and I knew I just wasn't up to refinishing the poor old things.  Several of the cabinet doors have broken & been glued together, so really, paint is the best thing.  I picked a brown hoping it wouldn't be too much of a change for us.  I also detest fly specks, so I was NOT painting anything white.  I know it's not a norm, but brown is what I decided.

My dad asked why not just do camo wallpaper?  Well, wallpaper is WAY too expensive. I haven't seen any on sale around here in YEARS and it's not something I'm comfortable buying online.  But, I do really kinda like the idea.  I love outdoorsy things, even though I'm a homebody and don't get outside much, I like things inside to remind me of things outside... without the wind, dirt, bugs, pollen...  Okay, I'm a wimpy country girl.  LOL
So, you have a peak here of "before" (see how yucky!) and the priming process (oldest is helping).  Hopefully we'll be done in a few days & I can post "after" pictures next week.  Wish me well!  zzzzz......
