As the new year begins, there is a lot going on around the Fogleman Funny Farm. Last year was hard for me. I finally broke down and saw a specialist to see what was going on. I've probably been dealing with Systemic Lupus for many years, but it finally made me stop and pay attention. The summer was miserable, but thankfully I'm getting back on my feet and feeling more human.
Planning
I've been wanting a big beautiful garden forever. It's something I've struggled with. We have house plants all over, but outside plants seem to hate me. Between the drought and unruly northwestern Oklahoma weather, it's just hard. I don't feel too bad because some of the best gardeners in our neck of the woods have been struggling as well.
This year, I am planning to beat it and really get a nice garden going. |
The greenhouse has also been "in the works" for a number of years. We finally got the top bought, but couldn't get it on because of a limb about to fall out of a nearby tree. We couldn't get anyone to come trim the tree, so I think we're just going to move the whole greenhouse one more time. Pray for poor Paul. I know he's tired of moving buildings and sheds around this place. I'm super excited to get things up and running though.

Being prepared isn't just having a go-bag or extra food in the pantry. Having knowledge and skills ready in case of need are also incredibly helpful.
I have to admit, I dislike butchering and I'll bow out any time I can. But... I know how and in the event of an emergency, I'm confident enough to get the job done.

Persevering
I love helping people. Here's a bit about a friend I've helped as she's persevered through some pretty rough chicken problems on their new homestead. Let's face it, homesteading is hard and chickens aren't the easiest animals to nurture.

In the process of all the plans and goals I have for 2023, the Prairie Dust Trail magazine is one of the biggest. I'm so excited about some of the contributors we have and the topics we're tackling. If you haven't subscribed yet.. or if you know a friend who's interested in learning more about Biblically based sustainable living, subscribe &/or share.
