Life has been crazy hectic out here on the prairie. If you follow me on facebook or twitter, you know we've been fighting devastating wildfires again this year. It's been awful. Our family is usually wading through mud, packing bags, and preparing for tornadoes this time of year. But... for the past two years, we've been packing for evacuation from prairie fires. I have a job outside the home now, in emergency communications so the hours have been nutty and the stress high. I'm trying to stay on top of homeschooling, basic homemaking, and keep up with what the children are doing with the farm critters. I have to be real and say, I'm failing terribly.
All I want to do after night shift is sleep and watch YouTube videos! |
Thankfully, a LOT of YouTube videos can work into our homeschooling. There are so many educational things on YouTube for them to learn, from documentaries to DIY. Of course, the children would prefer to watch Lego or Minecraft related videos and our youngest princess tortures the rest of the family with My Little Pony episodes any chance she gets.
While the children are outside doing their farm chores and I'm in between my naps... I watch quilting tutorials. In case you are a quilter or have ever considered quilting, I'd love to share these with you.

Shabby Fabrics
Jennifer Bosworth's shop in Idaho is on my bucket list to visit some day. She has FREE downloadable patterns with her tutorials. One of my favorite things about her store is her personal, exclusive Shabby Fabrics Collection. I love, LOVE shabby colors and prints. She also has exclusive "Shabby Shapes" which are pre-cut, iron-on fabric pieces in all kinds of shapes and sizes, perfect for fun applique projects. Jennifer's sweet Christian character comes out in her videos. In addition to quilt tutorials, she has a lot of fun projects for smaller, useful things. When I'm overwhelmed, sometimes a smaller project is nice. These also make wonderful gifts. (It's NOT too early to be thinking about gifts!) I'm subscribed to her email newsletter and am always delighted to open them and see what's new. (I generally hate email, so it's nice to have something to look forward to when I have to tackle that chore.) My only complaint is that her online store "search" is a little cumbersome and takes some time for me to find what I'm looking for sometimes. It's all worth it though for those beautiful fabrics! I've taken advantage of some of her awesome sales.
The Midnight Quilt Show
Angela Walters from Quilting is My Therapy shop in Missouri is hilarious! I don't drink wine, but am not opposed to some sparkly Kombucha tea while I quilt. Angela's specialty is machine quilting. She makes it look so fun and easy. I'm really looking forward to using some of her techniques on my long forgotten quilt tops that need to be finished. I have her videos set in the notifications on my cell phone so I know when each new episode comes out. They are SO much fun to watch. Angela usually offers a free pattern and quilting diagram with her tutorials. I'd like to eventually have a collection of her quilting books.
Missouri Star Quilt Company
This is one of the newest I found, yet one of the oldest out there. Jenny Doan has nine years of videos up on her channel. The story of their family business is inspiring. She's also a mother of seven children and homeschooled some. You can tell in her videos that she loves to teach and share. Sometimes she has her grandchildren on her videos as well, which is fun to see. Her shop is very easy to navigate. They have wonderful "Daily Deals", Flat $5 Shipping, and free shipping for purchases over $100. Jenny is also left handed, so she has tools for lefty's and shows using her left hand in her tutorials. That's really nice for left handed sewers. One of my favorite things is her Apparel & Aprons pattern page. I love sewing cute clothes for our family and the patterns she carries are modest and nice. I have quite a wish list.
There are other wonderful videos and YouTube channels, but for the moment these are my top three favorites. If you like this, check my Quilt and Crafty Fun playlists. Are you a quilter or crafter? I have to say that sewing and crafting are definitely part of my "therapy". I find it so relaxing and rewarding to create something beautiful for my family or friends. Hopefully now that we've had a little rain, I will have some projects to share with you soon. Please pray for the Prairie. We need a LOT more moisture before we'll be out of danger from the wildfires.
