My husband would like for me to post more political things on my blog. Does that sound odd to you? There are several reasons for that. He thinks I have a "way with words". (Nice to have a hubby that's proud of my writing!) I always get a lot more readers when I post political or controversial things too. Politics engage people. Here lately though, the engagement has not been nice. I enjoy a lively debate but there hasn't been such in a long time. Many people in this world have lost all common sense and refuse to listen to reason or logic. It's sad and frustrating. I'm seeing most of my friends wanting to separate themselves and completely avoid confrontation. I don't blame them!

We need to be careful though. If we completely avoid speaking up about our ideas and beliefs, where does that leave our children? Problems don't go away when people refuse to confront them. Persistent people get results.
In sharing current events with our children we need to follow a few basic steps:

- Start with the Truth. How did God originally intend people to be governed? Exodus and Judges explain His plans and intentions as well as the natural consequences for corruption.
- Learn from the past. Katie from Paradise Praises has a wonderful new 9-week Video-based Unit Study of all the US Presidents available now. This is a wonderful resource to learn about some of the most powerful men in the world and their influence over the past 240 years.
- Talk. Discuss some of the basic things that concern your family and our nation today. Don't be afraid to answer hard questions. Pray for discernment and guidance and think, "What would Jesus say?" He dealt with political corruption and social upheaval in His day too.
- Puerility. Childishness. Let the children be children but show them how inappropriate it is for people stay childish and not to grow up. We don't want to make fun. I believe God created every human with a plan and a purpose. But we do need to help our children see the true nature of what people are doing to themselves. Don't be afraid to discreetly point out sad, inappropriate behavior.
- PRAY. Spend special time praying with your children for the world, our country, the leaders and those lost souls that need HIM so badly.
