Our internet is upgraded now and I have been enjoying it. I haven't been feeling well, so I've been resting and enjoying a marathon of Downton Abbey. I've been hearing praises by other moms about the series so I availed myself of a free trial of Amazon Prime. While there have been a few things that frustrated me morally (I'm sure it's little compared to most tv programs these days; still...) I've found the history, costumes, etiquette, and political issues very interesting.
Our home was built in the early 1900's as were many old treasures in our community. I find myself wondering, while English aristocracy was living in stiff grandeur, what were the people out here doing? |
Something I learned recently is formal place setting. I know a basic place setting, but I didn't realize a "formal" setting allows for EIGHT courses. You can learn more about it at WikiHow's "Arrange a Place Setting for a Formal Dinner" and Wikipedia's "Table Setting". I love this type of thing because, even though it doesn't happen often, I LOVE to entertain. I love setting a pretty table and inviting people over.
I ran into some of the most beautiful ideas on Pinterest. I have pinned them to my "Hospitality" board. I also have some beautiful examples of dress from this period on my "Edwardian" board. Elegant, yet a bit more practical than earlier dresses.
