I haven’t had a subscription to a magazine for a long time. I’ve been thinking and talking to hubby about how nice it would be. There’s something about a magazine in the mailbox. The slick, shiny cover with a bright collage of pictures peaking at you amidst the pile of folded papers and stack of bills. It’s like they are whispering, “Warm a cup and curl up on the couch with me!” I miss it. When I ran across the opportunity to review a magazine I’ve never seen before and with a theme that touched my heart… Well, I jumped at the chance.
This package has sat on my desk waiting for that special, quiet moment for me to open it and relish the moments. …and sat… and sat… and sat… I keep seeing it, as I rearrange papers and bills. I keep telling it, “Soon, soon.” Well, today is the day! I open the clear plastic and find… not one… not two… but THREE magazines! What amazing fun! There is a 2011 and two 2013 editions.
Seasons At Home is beautiful. The back cover of each magazine has “Sweet Notes From Our Readers.” The inside front cover has a simple table of contents and basic publishing and contact information. Sweet and Simple. Each issue has recipes and craft projects with excellent pictures of the process. These are real homemade, homesteading recipes! Canning Tomatoes, homemade dressings, cheese, cakes, soups, apple butter… I can hardly believe all the recipes and photos they’ve fit in here! One has how to build a family table. An 8′ Dining TABLE! There is a paper piecing quilt project, how to build a simple loom, making a pin cushion, and ribbon embroidery! Each magazine has a section just for boys. One has Battle Batons & fishing with Dad, another has a scavenger hunt and how to make moonsand and a Periscope, the other has two wood projects in it that would make great gifts. (I might have to make the hint to my fella’s!) Each Seasons At Home is also sprinkled with devotional stories, short Bible studies, and lessons in etiquette and hospitality.

As a homeschool mom, I would not only find the Seasons At Home relaxing and enjoyable to read, I would also find plenty to spur fun ‘school’ projects and additional study ideas. For my followers who are in your Grandmothering years, you would find this magazine full of ideas for treats and simple projects to do when your grandchildren come for a visit. The craft projects are also wonderful gift ideas! Of course, I have always loved homemade gifts. Don’t think just because we live in such a technological age, with everyone glued to some kind of fancy smart phone, pad, pod, or computerized gismo… that handmade is too old-fashioned. More and more people are craving vintage & pioneer style items. Usefulness NEVER goes out of style!
