Yet Scripture offers another lens through which to view the fire many have walked through. Throughout the Bible, the refining of silver and gold is used as a picture of transformation. Those who have endured hardship often develop unusual discernment, resilience, empathy, and courage. When healing takes place through the renewing of the mind and the work of our Creator, the very traits once used for survival can become powerful tools for purpose. In this article, we explore how survivors of childhood abuse and neglect can move from reaction to intentional response, discovering how the refining process can shape them into watchful leaders, protectors, teachers, and truth-seekers… perhaps even positioned, like Queen Esther, “for such a time as this.”
