Out here we have a saying, "Too many chiefs & not enough Indians." Native American 'Indian' tribes had a chief who helped keep order in their community. Most people picture the feathered headdress, but really, only one tribe used those. It only took one chief to keep the peace. If another Brave got cocky or overbearing it would cause problems. Things work best if you have one leader, manager, or CEO and everyone else uses their unique talents to complete their obligations.
Cowboys tend to be proud and stubborn. They like to be their own boss, own their own land, and brand their own cattle. |
The pioneer women out here aren't immune to the problem. Church socials usually work pretty smoothly, but when they try to put together something bigger with more of the community involved than their little circle... Well, then the men start talking about those "temperamental" women in hushed and snickering tones. Oh, we CAN work together, but it often doesn't happen smoothly unless a life is in danger.
I'm not complaining. It's part of what keeps things exciting. (I admit, sometimes I even like to 'stir the pot' a bit.) Sometimes we forget how to be a true community and how to work together. We need to be reminded that we aren't fighting or competing with each other, rather:
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:12-13 KJV
Lately our family has had to pitch in and work as a team while we deal with the loss of my mother. There have been so many things to settle and go through. I'm proud that my family has done a good job helping with everything. My husband and children have been encouraging me, helping keep up with housework, and still doing their studies. We'll still have some catch-up on a few things, but it is manageable and I'm happy to have been blessed with such a wonderful family!
Would you work together with me on something? I'd like you to fill out this little survey for me. I'm wanting to reach out to you more this year and get to know my readers better. I appreciate the prayer & support you all have given. You are a blessing to me too! Thank you!
